How many porta potties does a construction site need?
OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51(c) requires 1 toilet for 20 or fewer workers, and 1 toilet seat and 1 urinal per 40 workers above 20. Sites with 200 or more workers need 1 seat and 1 urinal per 50. For comfort and weekly service, plan 1 standard unit for every 10 workers on a 40-hour week.
| Workers on site | OSHA minimum (Table D-1) | Our planning number with weekly service |
|---|---|---|
| 1 to 10 | 1 toilet | 1 standard unit |
| 11 to 20 | 1 toilet | 2 standard units |
| 21 to 40 | 1 toilet seat and 1 urinal per 40 workers | 3 to 4 units |
| 41 to 80 | 1 seat and 1 urinal per 40 workers | 5 to 8 units |
| 200 or more | 1 seat and 1 urinal per 50 workers | Call for a site plan |
Read the rule at osha.gov. Your general contractor or safety officer has the final word. Full detail is in the OSHA porta potty guide.
How does job-site porta potty service work?
Job-site porta potties are billed in 28-day cycles, and every cycle includes weekly service. Each visit pumps the tank, cleans the seat, floor and walls, adds fresh treatment and restocks toilet paper and sanitizer. Service runs on a set day with no scheduling, and units stay until you call for pickup.
- Keep it reachable. The service truck needs a clear path on service day. Do not block the unit with materials or a dumpster.
- Locked sites. Give the gate code or lock combination once and the crew uses it every week.
- Heavy use. Big crews or long shifts can add a second weekly visit.
- Move it. Units can be moved as the build moves; ask on a service day.
Do homeowners need a porta potty for a remodel?
A homeowner remodeling a kitchen or bathroom, replacing a roof, pouring concrete or building a pool should rent a porta potty when crews will be on site for more than a day or two. One standard unit on the driveway keeps workers out of the house and protects floors from job-site dirt.
The same 28-day plan applies, with weekly service included. Check your HOA rules on where the unit can sit. Read the remodel guide for placement tips.
Where should a job-site porta potty go?
A job-site porta potty should sit on level ground within a short walk of the work, beside the drive the service truck uses, and away from trenches, cranes and material drops. On open Oklahoma lots, set units on the downwind side of a trailer or fence, and stake them in spring wind season.
Red clay turns slick after rain. A gravel pad or plywood keeps units level and lets the truck reach them. Add a hand-washing station near the break area, especially on concrete, paint or coating jobs.
Questions renters ask
Can I rent a construction porta potty for just two weeks?
A construction porta potty is billed per 28-day cycle, so a two-week job pays for one cycle. That cycle includes delivery, weekly service and pickup. Call for pickup as soon as the work wraps up.
Can the invoice go to my company with a PO number?
The invoice can go to your company with a PO number and a separate site contact, such as the superintendent. Repeat builders can keep one account for every job site.
Do you service job sites on a set day?
Job-site units are serviced on a set day each week. The crew needs the unit unlocked or your lock code. If the site is closed that day, call and the visit can shift.
Can you add units as my crew grows?
Units can be added to a job site any time, and they join the same weekly service route. Call a day ahead when you add trades or a second shift.
Do you deliver to oilfield and industrial sites?
Oilfield, pipeline and plant sites across the delivery area get the same 28-day plan with weekly service. Share site rules, gate check-in steps and safety gear needs before the first delivery.
